Maryam Mirzakhani was an Iranian mathematician and the first woman to win in 2014 the Fields Medal, often called the Nobel Prize of mathematics.
Her work bridges several mathematical disciplines, including hyperbolic geometry, complex analysis, topology, and dynamics. Unfortunately, Maryam Mirzakhani passed away in the prime of her professional life.
